Jamie Lindley Wins Prentice Loader Championship at Mid-Atlantic Logging & Biomass Expo

Jamie Lindley, Siler City, N.C., won the Prentice Loader Championship at the Mid-Atlantic Logging & Biomass Expo, October 7-8, near Selma and Smithfield, N.C.

Sponsored by Caterpillar Forest Products, the competition raised $868 for Log A Load For Kids through voluntary contestant contributions and the company’s match. Log A Load is an organization sponsored by loggers and other forest products people to raise funds for hospitals associated with the Children’s Miracle Network.

First introduced at Expo Richmond in 1972, the Prentice Loader Championship is a contest in which operators demonstrate their skill with the loader by picking up and moving blocks between two checkerboards. The contest consists of two runs. All contestants participate in the first run, and then the top 10 compete in the Trophy Run to determine the final ranking.

Lindley had the best time in the first run. His Trophy Run was clean and he shaved off 1.37 seconds for a final time of 2 minutes, 37.6 seconds. Joah Hackman, Pink Hill, N.C., took second place with a Trophy Run time of 2 minutes, 41.13 seconds. John Dee Caraway III, New Bern, N.C., finished third with a Trophy Run time of 2 minutes, 51.13 seconds. First, second and third place winners received cash prizes, trophies and Prentice Loader Championship jackets. The fourth and fifth place winners also received jackets.
